Book An Appointment

We have recently launched a new online triage system last year! This means all requests to see or speak to a GP, Nurse or Physiotherapist is made by sumbitting a medical request online.

Using the same system, you can also submit an admin query for anything non-clinical.

Please use the link below which can also be found on the homepage:

The online triage system will be open between 8am to 3pm. If you need to contact us after this time, please phone the surgery directly.

As always, any patient who does not have access to the internet or has difficulty completing the form will always be able to contact our reception team who will complete the same online triage form on the patient's behalf.

The Online Triage System

Following submission of a triage form, EVERY medical request will be seen and reviewed by the Duty GP on the same day. They will prioritise and either deal with the request directly, arrange for a suitable appointment or direct to other services.

Any admin query will be reviewed by the admin team and either actioned directly or forwarded to the correct member of staff.

Contacting us using the online triage form is the quickest way to get in contact. To help maximise the benefits of the triage system it is important to fill in the form with as much information as possible to help the Duty GP triage the request more accurately. This can include details of any clinicians you would prefer. We will always try to accommodate any requests thought this may not always be possible.

This new system is starting to be adopted nationally and has come about due the unprecedented demands currently facing General Practice. The BMA estimates that since 2015 the NHS has lost the equivalent of 1,881 full-time fully qualified GPs. We have also seen an increase in the number of appointment requests that is exceeding pre-COVID levels.

This new approach will help relieve the strain on the practice by helping to streamline the appointment system and we have already seen several benefits.

  1. It allows for increased convenience for you, allowing you to complete the form at your own pace and avoid the long queues in the morning trying to get through. The added bonus is the phone lines are freer for those who need to speak to us directly.

  2. Simple requests that need telephone advice can be dealt with promptly.

  3. Appointments can be triaged more effectively. We have a varied multi-disciplinary team at the practice including GPs, Nurse Practitioners, Practice Nurses Health Care Assistants, first contact physiotherapy, a pharmacy team and care coordinators specialising in Learning Disability, Cancer, Frailty and conditions needing long-term care. Sometimes your query may be better dealt with by a different member of the team, and this can be arranged directly.

Training Practice

Bramhall & Shaw Heath Medical Group are an accredited training practice, something which we are very proud of. We host medical students, foundation doctors (who are in the first two years post qualification) and GP Registrars (doctors who are undergoing the 3 year speciality GP training, after completing their foundation years).

The stages to becoming a GP, post graduation, is a 5-year process. It is very important to the practice to support both Health Education England and the Manchester Deanery with this process helping to grow and shape future medical professionals thus aiding the development of the future NHS workforce.

Appointments may be booked with one of the trainees who all work under the direct supervision of the practice's doctors.

Extended Hours

  • The practice provides a variety of appointments outside of our normal opening hours. These appointments are intended for use by patients who find it difficult to attend the practice during our normal opening hours.

They include late evening appointments every Wednesday at Shaw Heath Centre till 8pm and Saturdays once a month also at Shaw Heath Health Centre.  These appointments must be booked in advance. Please seek further information from our reception team.
